Charity Challenge Offers Much Needed Help During Hard Times

The tough economic times we are facing today are even harder on families searching for an affordable place to live. That’s why the REALTORS Charity Challenge coming up on August 18 in Raleigh is so important. Proceeds will go to Homes4NC, the Housing Opportunity Foundation of the NC Association of REALTORS. In just three years, Homes4NC has provided $140,000 in grants to help low-income residents with their housing needs.

Danny Brock, tournament chairman and 2007 president of NCAR talks about the tournament and Homes4NC in a new video recently posted on NC REALTOR TV. View the video here or download a Charity Challenge brochure.

Please help us raise the funds we need to continue providing grants for affordable housing. Join us for the REALTOR Charity Challenge on Aug. 18 at the Raleigh Country Club.

Foreclosure Resources Offer Facts, Solutions

Did you know that the number of foreclosures in North Carolina are expected to grow to 60,000 by the end of this year? How about that your home loses on the average $2,600 in value if it is within one-quarter mile of a foreclosed property?

Learn the sobering statistics surrounding foreclosure and how REALTORS® can be part of the solution. Join housing leaders for a Foreclosure Crisis Seminar in Greenville on July 24 to examine the problem and work together on possible solutions. There’s also a helpful article in this month’s Insight written by Greenville REALTOR® Dede Carney, who is co-chair of Homes4NC’s Education Committee.

Working together, we can turn this crisis around!

Let Us Know What Areas Your MLS Covers!

As you may or may not know, the NC Association of REALTORS® sends out a monthly report around the 15th of every month with important information regarding total units sold, average sales price and total dollar sales volume for different areas across the state. The monthly MLS statistics are widely read by both the public and the REALTOR® family. Additionally, news media rely heavily on this information in order to report accurate data in real estate articles across the state. With this being said, it is highly important that the NC Association of REALTORS® have the most up-to-date information on MLSs across the state and the areas that each MLS encompasses. Please take the time to follow the link below and notify Barbara Mathis at bmathis@ncrealtors.org of any modifications that need to be made. In doing this, we will be more equipped to serve you, our more than 43,000 members, with the most accurate information.

You've Got Mail! Or Do You?

Electronic communication is becoming more and more prevalent. Emails, websites, blogs, webinars, etc., are all fast, easy and cost-effective ways to get vital information to you, our members. Between our electronic newsletters, emails to members serving on committees and other leadership, and list-servs, the NC Association of REALTORS® staff sends out thousands of emails every month.

However, due to increasing security measures necessitated by spam, it is getting more difficult for our emails to “get through” to you. Do you know if you are receiving emails from us? For example, we sent out an email on July 1 regarding forms changes and how to update your Realfast program. Did you receive it?

If you did not, there are two possibilities to consider:

1. We may have an email address listed for you that is outdated. If you think that is the case, email me at sashburn@ncrealtors.org and I will be happy to update it for you.

2. You need to check your junk email folder or spam filter to see if any are “stuck” in there. By adding “@ncrealtors.org” to your approved senders list, any email that comes from us should come through unimpeded. If you are not sure how to do this, check the help section of your email program and/or your spam program (sometimes they are different programs and you have to add it to both) for directions. Those members who receive their email through a network server may have to contact their IT person.

If you are receiving emails from us, I hope you find the information valuable. If you have not done the above, you probably should just as a precautionary measure.

One final reminder, and it’s important: The NC Association of REALTORS® will not share your email address. We only send emails to our members to provide information about membership services and industry news, and it’s a privilege that we take great pride in not abusing.
