Why does the NC Association of Realtors choose not to hold a convention for the next TWO years in North Carolina to aid in stimulating the local economy where its members live and work?

We appreciate your comments about hosting our annual convention in the state of North Carolina. The members who regularly attend our conventions have expressed a strong desire to have the event in a resort location. North Carolina lacks a resort facility capable of handling a group our size. We have outgrown the Grove Park Inn in Asheville and there is no coastal facility in North Carolina which fulfills our meeting specifications. Our organization and other large N.C. associations have lobbied state officials for years to help locate a large resort facility in North Carolina. So far, our efforts in this regard have not been successful.

We had a very successful convention in Savannah in 2006 with a record attendance of nearly 1200 attendees. We utilize three major hotels and a convention center. We anticipate that we will require exhibit space for 130 or more exhibitors. In 2008, we had our annual event in Charlotte. The attendance in Charlotte was 25 percent less than that of Savannah in 2006.

It’s worth noting that our neighboring states of South Carolina and Georgia have much smaller REALTOR conventions than ours. In the recent past, the Georgia and South Carolina REALTOR Associations have brought their annual events to North Carolina. We hope you will join us in Savannah in September 2009.
